Nose correction
The nose is one of the most visible and characteristic parts of the body, which gives expression to the entire face. It is an organ for breathing and sense of smell, but can also give a hard time to its owner, both in aesthetic and functional terms. A nose can be “different” either from birth or as a result of injury. No changes to the nose can be made until the development of the skull is fully completed, which is around the age of 20 years, and thereafter there is no reason for hesitation.
Plastic surgery of the nose is increasingly being sought at Asklepion.
The nose is the gateway to the nasopharynx. It is composed of bony tissue called cartilage, muscles, and skin. It has a triangle shape and the entire nose is tripod-shaped. Located in the middle part of the nose, the bony and cartilage nasal septum divides the nose into the left and right halves.
These passages are called nostrils. It must be patent in both directions, to preserve the basic functions of the nose (regulation of humidity, sense of smell, resonance). The cartilage portion, the apex, deviation of the nasal septum, as well the overall
size and shape
of the nose can be corrected in aesthetic terms.
The parts on which the surgeon works are the nasal bones, which compose a roof-like structure, and the cartilage, two on each side of the nose (upper lateral and lower lateral).
The surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia, but can also be performed under local anaesthesia or conscious sedation. The client will remain at the department the entire day and the subsequent night. The operation lasts from one to four hours. After the operation, the client wakes up with a special aluminium splint on the nose, which must be worn for an additional 10 to 14 days. The client can have a nasal packing (at Asklepion, we use the Merocel plug, which is a modern absorption foam, compared to the 2-meter gauze used elsewhere), which remains in the nose for 1 to 3 days. After discharge, it is advisable to stay on home care for 14 days. After the removal of the splint from the nose, the client cannot perform sports for an additional 3 to 6 months. Detailed instruction from the surgeon is of great importance, since the nose is very sensitive after surgery to any pressure (chewing, grimaces, tanning, position of the body while sleeping, any pressure increase in the upper part of the body, including sexual activity!).
The result (long expected) will not be definitive in one or two month but in 6 to 12 months!
Summary:
- Duration of the procedure: 1 to 3 hours
- Type of anaesthesia: General (sedation)
- Stay at the clinic: One day
- Recommended stay in Prague: at least 5 days after the surgery
- Suture removal. No sutures are needed in most cases
- Final effect: 1 to 2 months until the healing, the final effect in 6 to 12 months
- Additional information: After the surgery, the nose must be protected from any impact or pressure that could damage it. The nose is very sensitive and vulnerable, especially during the first days after the surgery.
